Taking an HIV test can give you much needed peace of mind, allowing you to know your HIV status and take control, whether your results are negative or positive. An early diagnosis will enable you to access effective HIV treatment that stops the progression of the virus and eliminates the risk of transmission, by making the virus undetectable**. If it’s positive, it means that your antibodies are reactive to the HIV test.
There are many reasons you may be considering taking an HIV test. Simplitude™ ByMe™ HIV self-test enables you to be in control of your health, fitting to your routine and your lifestyle. For the results to be accurate, you will need to complete the self-test at least 12 weeks after any possible HIV exposure.
** Undetectable = Untransmittable; it means that if a person living with HIV stays undetectable for 6 months or more while on treatment, they cannot transmit HIV through sex.

The HIV Self Test is not suitable for people taking antiretroviral medication.
Detecting negative samples: The Simplitude™ ByMe™ self test for HIV has been shown in laboratory testing to correctly identify 99.6% of HIV negative samples (1757 of 1764). This is known as the test’s specificity. This means that, on average, for every 1,000 negative samples tested, 996 will be detected correctly.
Detecting positive samples: The Simplitude™ ByMe™ self test for HIV has been shown in laboratory testing to correctly identity 99.6% of HIV positive samples (904 of 908). This is known as the test’s sensitivity.
This means that, on average, for every 1,000 positive samples tested, 996 tests will be detected correctly.
Testing was performed with samples from high prevalence regions (South Africa) and from low prevalence regions (Europe).
The test has an integrated safety lancet for pricking the finger and obtaining a blood sample: the lancet is sterile. The green sterility tab ensures that the lancet remains clean and sterile before use.
First turn the green sterility tab at least 90 degrees, then pull it out.
Don’t worry; pricking your finger is quick and easy and you will feel only a slight pinch at your fingertip.
You will not see the needle before or after it has pricked your finger.
It is important to know if it has been more than 3 months since your last risk event. If it has, and you have performed the test correctly, you are likely to be HIV negative. If it has been less than 3 months since your last risk event, you will need to test again in 3 months. If you are unsure, you should seek advice from your doctor or a healthcare professional.

A negative result does not at any time preclude the possibility of HIV infection. If the test result is negative and clinical symptoms are present, additional testing using other clinical methods is recommended.
Don’t panic. The Simplitude™ ByMe™ self test for HIV is a screening test and a positive test result does not necessarily mean that you have HIV. If the test result is positive, you need to go for follow-up testing at a healthcare facility.

HIV is a manageable condition, and HIV is not a barrier to a long, active and healthy life. Your doctor will ensure this, and might also recommend a local HIV support service. People living with HIV are now put on treatment immediately, which prevents any damage to your body and when taken long-term will ensure you can't pass it on to anyone else.
The test will not give a result if it is not performed correctly. You will need to start again using a new test device or speak to your doctor or healthcare professional for follow-up testing.
If you see a line next to the ‘C’ symbol on the top of the test cassette it means you have performed the test correctly.
If you see a line next the ‘C’ symbol on the top of the test cassette but you are not sure if you have performed the test correctly, please refer to the following trouble shooting questions.
If the answer is no to any of these questions, the test may not have worked correctly; in which case you should dispose of the test and perform another test using a new device or speak to your doctor or healthcare professional.
